This week I was talking to a client in Cayman about a challenge they were facing at looking at a strategy for post-pandemic. I listened, then reflected that within that challenge I could see several opportunities. They were grateful, though for a moment, then reflected back upon the value of having an informed person with an outside perspective in helping with seeing opportunities.
This took me back to a phrase I use often: “you can’t see the goldfish bowl you are swimming in”, and in fact to an earlier blog on different perspectives that featured both Cayman in my own musing as well as a favourite video of a powerful talk.
As you move beyond the immediate responses to looking at what comes next, it is vital to assess the challenges, yet also to be able to see the opportunities within each challenge.
