Be of service

Be of service

The photo above is taken from the train around 9 am one day this week when I was returning home from an early breakfast meeting in central London, a photo of iconic views of Battersea Power Station and the River Thames and the City of London beyond. As I sat on the train home, I thought not only about the amazing views from the train on a summer’s day but about how great it feels to be of service.

That breakfast meeting was with a friend where, whenever the two of us get together, we often talk about purposeful and big ideas that can make a difference for many people. Our latest discussion was absolutely along those lines, and also about what can be done to take those ideas towards designing a strategy that can then be executed. Organically and naturally, it felt that I could potentially be of service in supporting this beyond the idea stage. Whether or not I am engaged in any of this, it simply felt good that discussions so far have been of value and that there is potential to take part in work that can be of service.

It may sound obvious to some, but when you can do work that uses your particular skills and experience and is also of service at levels that make a difference at multiple levels and to a lot of people, then that is something very special. I feel privileged that I get to be of service in this way quite often, and I plan to keep doing this for many years to come!
