I love People and Ideas

Writing this feeling like my week is starting slowly for me, and with a simple realisation stemming from that.

To begin, the weather here is, well, “grotty”. London hasn’t got the memo that summer is meant to be here, it is “dreech”, grey, drizzly, cold. So, not inspiring to look out of the window. Next, this is an unusually timed workday for me. I have a full day of meetings, but they don’t start until 2 pm UK time and will continue until around 11 pm. This type of time shift is to be expected after living and working for decades in the Americas and now living in London.

So, in my armchair on the laptop musing on what to write about today, I recognised that I was feeling less than my usual bouncy and energised self as the working week started. I poured another coffee and sat looking out at the “gash” weather (plenty Scots vernacular today!). The simple realisation that them came to me is that what powers my engine, charges my batteries, is the combination of People and Ideas.

I love people, everything about the endless variety and complexity of humans. I love meeting and talking to people. Very much linked to that is that I love ideas, hence though I love reading, listening, and watching to take in ideas, there is nothing like being with people (in-person best, online works too) and listening and talking about ideas.

With those thoughts sitting with me, I’m writing this post, then actively looking forward to my “time-shifted” day of meetings, as well as to meeting and talking with this week’s guest on #WhatComesNextLive, Fiona Buckland, a fellow leadership coach and who recently published the book: “Thoughtful Leadership: A Guide to Leading with Mind, Body, and Soul“.
