Values are stronger than fears

Values are stronger than fears
The #OpenLeadership model

People think fear is a strong motivation but that’s because there’s typically nothing opposing it. Someone who has strong values will endure astounding fear and discomfort in the service of their goals. Values are stronger than fears.

Donald J. Robertson, on Twitter 15th March 2021

My twitter response:

Truth. How strongly do you hold your values and those of the organisation you lead? We need bravery from our leaders to really transform business and the world, leading from values is a powerful source.

Earlier this week I watched a webinar with a panel talking about Inclusive Leadership. When asked to give the characteristics of inclusive leadership, most of them gave three words, but, as I pointed out in a question, none of them used Brave or any word similar to it. If we truly want to create real and lasting change (including a more diverse and inclusive working world), leaders need to be brave.

Adding to that thought, the tweet above from Don Robertson is powerful. When we lead from values, this massively supports us in being brave.

Values are stronger than fears.

What does that look like in practice?

in 2020 the key thing that I did was to stay close to values. Leading with values really set the stage for our firm going forward and making the right choices.
