Professional road stage cycling is unique in that it is a team sport in which the glory goes to one individual, to a lesser exten to the team, then the other team riders are often forgotten by all other than the true cognoscenti. In 2013 Chris Froome (in the “maillot jaune” above, the yellow race leader’s jersey) won the Tour de France, yet critical to him succeeding, to him reaching his full potential, to (literally) climbing mountains, was the selfless presence supporting him of Richie Porte, riding just ahead of Froome in the photo. Richie Porte was already one of the best cyclists in the world, but he gave everything he had to help another succeed, to help the team succeed.
As we enter 2021, I find myself reflective. Part of that is reflecting with gratitude on the memories of all those through my life and my work who have been there to help me reach my full potential to levels I could not have done alone. I also look back with contentment at my own choice, many years ago, to commit myself, through my work, to support others. This work is often silent and unnoticed from the outside. Like Richie Porte, I give myself to the success of others, , all in the name of living my purpose of #MakingPotentialPossible.
2020 was tough for everyone in different ways and this year will see that continue. However, in every challenge lies at least one opportunity. For some of you reading this, you are ready, you see opportunities for yourself, your business, and for those you lead.
