Meeting interesting people doing interesting things

Meeting interesting people at lunch club

When I moved to London with few friends or business contacts here, I simply decided to look to meet interesting people doing interesting things. Three and a half years later, I’m still doing that (and I love it!), but with Covid this is almost always online.

This week am keeping my writing brief, as “mid-move” as moving house this weekend, so simply a recommendation for a website called, simply, “LunchClub“. I understand it started out as an “ai” way to match people to have business “networking” (gosh, I abhor that word!) meetings in person. However, with the pandemic lockdowns they simply opened it up for online meetings and it has accelerated, and fast. Lunchclub is currently invitation-only but is still quite new, so when my friend, colleague and uber-connector Roddy Cameron sent me an invitation I had no idea what it was about. Still, I decided to try one or two meetings per week and see what happens. At the time of writing, I’ve had 21 meetings over three months and am loving it!

Perhaps because I click the option each week to meet “Interesting People”, I find LunchClub meetings far less “transactional” that typical London first meetings. People simply talk about what they are doing and learn from each other. I’ve learned something new from every single meeting, as well as connected several people to others I know.

Anyway, having just had another meeting, that’s my thought to share for today. Lunchclub is a way to meet interesting people doing interesting things.

Oh, and my last three calls were with the Ivory Coast, India and Luxembourg. Easy to do when we are living online!
