I love to be a sounding board, coach, mentor, advisor. I love to support others in these different and sometimes overlapping ways. I do this with a maximum of six paying clients at a time, but also with many more people whom I support with anything from a one-off meeting to regular mentoring sessions every couple of months or so. I know from experience, though, that whilst all of them receive value, those who have the formality of being an active client benefit more due to the structure, commitment, and accountability of being a client, all of which bring results over time.
So, to the diagramme above. This is from an app called Strava which I used to track my exercise activities. This particular chart is Strava’s assessment of my fitness level over the past year. You will notice the steep and quite regular improvement between early November and now. This is not by accident, it comes from me commencing a structured training programme last month, with a minimum of four one-hour bike rides on my indoor trainer weekly, each one with a focus in mind for that session, and with all of them cumulatively designed to improve my fitness and overall performance over time. As you will also see, my fitness has gone up at various times over the year, but in an irregular way, and also with noticeable dips when I wasn’t so regular with my commitment to exercise.
Yes, I’m being blindingly obvious with my comparison here, so let me go further and state it. If you want to improve in anything, commit to it, invest in it both in your time and focus and in paying for professional support where appropriate for you (such as a coach, trainer etc).
As to my own client base, in January this year, I wrote “Why I’m currently not accepting new clients” to explain a) that I was closed to new clients at that time, and b) why I limit myself to six clients at a time. I then had this consistent client base for all of this year, but I note that two of those clients will be completed with their current work with me soon such that, effective February 1st 2024 I will have space for up to two new clients.
If you feel you could be ready to commit to the structure and investment of working with me next year and ready for the benefits that can bring to you and your organisation, be in touch with me soon.
