The value of peace of mind

by | Aug 24, 2023 | Open Leadership

Yesterday I was running an errand and my car unexpectedly and suddenly overheated badly. The red warning light and message made it clear I had to stop the car RIGHT AWAY, so I did.

I was only a few miles from home and heading back for my first client call of the day, but as the Bard said: “The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men / Gang aft a-gley.”, so my plans changed right away.

Happily, I pay a tiny sum of under £8 per month for RAC breakdown cover. Within two hours the RAC had towed the car to my local BMW garage and even gave me a lift home, so I was able to make my second call of the day.

If I did not have that breakdown cover in place, I can imagine it would have a) taken hours longer, b) been much more expensive, and c) been pretty stressful to find an independent breakdown service on short notice.

I am very happy to pay a few £ per month for that peace of mind. The value is far higher than the price.

Insurance has a cost, but it also has a value in peace of mind as well as against financial loss. I can tell you that the peace of mind value was uppermost for me in this case.

What insurance do you choose to have and what value does it provide for you?
