AI and the Price of Salt

by | May 12, 2023 | Open Leadership

This week I’ve been waxing somewhat philosophical about ChatGPT, LLMs and the rapidly accelerating abilities of AI and the impact it will have on society, employment, the economy and more.

Today I found myself dipping into my “Seth” email folder. He is the master of daily posting and a key inspiration for me starting doing the same back in 2017, yet I find myself in recent years only occasionally dipping into his posts, with currently over 1000 unread emails in that filtered folder. So, in any event, today I “dipped in” and look what I found, Waxing philosophical indeed, Master Godin!

The price of salt

Salt is essentially free. A bag of salted nuts is the same price (or less) as an unsalted one.

But salt used to be expensive. Truly expensive, like gold.

We keep seeing the deflation of things we were sure would remain expensive. Computer chips, disk storage and now, content.

Once computers start illustrating, writing and composing, the opportunity is to have them work for you, not compete with you.
