Marking the Moment with Maeve

by | Mar 3, 2023 | Open Leadership

Today was a day of Mystery and History. A real Golden moment.
Little wide-eyed 16-year-old me sitting in wonder on the bench, learning to make my first ring and dreaming of a jewelled future, can’t quite believe it 😊

Today I was admitted into the Freedom of the Mystery of Goldsmiths of the City of London. A huge honour, and a true pleasure and privilege to do so with great friends present

Maeve Gillies on Instagram yesterday

This week I have been really feeling a theme of  “Marking Moments”, including this in my daily writing, first about flying tomorrow to Cayman to attend the funeral of Gene Thompson and then moving at a tangent to talk about the importance of taking time to celebrate.

After writing those two blogs, on Wednesday morning I was given the immense privilege of accompanying my dear friend Maeve Gillies to the ceremony where she was admitted to the “Mystery of Goldsmiths”, an institution that will be celebrating its 700th anniversary in four years time. I encourage you to introduce yourself to Maeve a little by browsing her site here, as well as to listen in on our conversation on WhatComesNextLive here. My own capture of some of her essence in the intro to that podcast conversation was:

Maeve is a creative culture entrepreneur, a rare combination of entrepreneurial nature, design brilliance, global mindset and empathic collaboration. We met years ago as fellow GlobalScots. I’m constantly inspired by her and also feel so grateful to call her “pal” (as we say in the Edinburgh way!)

Perhaps I could say more about the occasion or about the specifics of the event, but no. Today simply focussing on the fact that it was a true privilege to be present at Goldsmith’s Hall with Maeve this week to mark her moment.

Congratulations once again, my dear pal! x
