Freezing fog and more fitness thoughts

by | Jan 23, 2023 | Open Leadership, Self-Knowledge, Storytelling

Yesterday (Sunday) morning I was due to go on a bike ride. The weather forecast had been for a cold and sunny day, and my riding buddy and I had decided to delay going out until about 11 am to give it time to get a couple of degrees over freezing. However, when I woke up it was a) below freezing and forecast to remain that way, and b) foggy (the photo above is of freezing fog, taken from my office at 10:15 Sunday). The decision became easy, to cancel the ride, as all it would take would be for one patch of ice to throw us off our bikes, so no fun to ride with that apprehension.

I smiled as we made that decision, as just two days ago I published “Going with the flow with my fitness journey“, noting that I didn’t feel like doing indoor bike training and was just going to walk that day on a day out in London.

Things do change and we do go with the flow though.

On Friday evening, just after watching the winter sunset (as I posted about yesterday here), I sent a copy of the sunset photo to my riding buddy, also saying “yup, this is not Paris, our trip was postponed, want to ride on Sunday?”. Thirty-six hours later that ride was cancelled as we went with the flow once again.

Oh, and as for going up to London on Saturday, family plans changed that but hey, still got well over 10km of winter walking in during the day (including a long uphill walk to a wine bar. Always feels good to earn that glass of wine and cheese board!).

Anyway, as to fitness thoughts, I was indeed meant to be in Paris today, Monday, but as that was cancelled at late notice due to a general strike, I find myself with space in the day, and, lo and behold, I do now feel motivated to get on the indoor trainer.

As one of my wonderful past mentors, Suki Smith, always says, “awareness is the greatest agent for change”, so perhaps the simple act of writing down my thoughts around my awareness of my fitness journey became enough to shift my energy and get me back on the indoor bike!
