Time to love watches again

by | Sep 27, 2022 | Open Leadership, Self-Knowledge

Over the years I built up a small collection of watches. My favourite? That varies, but I love the Swach skeleton watch (far left), and also feel “The Accurate” by Mr Jones Watches (third from the right) is quite special, with the hands a “Memento Mori” reminder. Oh, and none are particularly expensive (all are under $200 other than the Longines one on the far right. The thing is, I stopped wearing all of them about five years ago. Why? I got an Apple Watch.

Now, recently I bought an Oura Ring to replace the Apple Watch. This very cool piece of tech does all the fitness tracking of an Apple Watch and more, plus has a battery that lasts at least five days, so I can wear it 24/7 and so track sleep as well as exercise (it syncs to Strava). The other reason I bought it was so I could wear watches again. I’m already loving the feeling of an elegant watch on my wrist. Oh, and the simplicity of one that does not vibrate or send my phone messages to the Apple Watch.

For all that I love being digitally connected, I also love being in the analogue world, with my phone put away and on silent, and yes, an analogue watch on my wrist.

Tomorrow I am flying out for a first overseas vacation since before Covid. The plan is simply to chill, so while I will be wearing one or more of these watches each day, I don’t plan to look at them very often.

PS would love your thoughts on watches as well as recommendations to add to my collection. Automatic and perhaps skeleton watches preferred.
