Feeling guilty about not writing

by | Sep 16, 2022 | Open Leadership, Response-ability, Self-Knowledge

guilty

So, here I am. Instead of sitting at the keyboard and finding it easy to simply write about one or more ideas, I’m feeling an absence of inspiration of things to write. I still love writing, simply lacking ideas.

I’m also feeling guilty about that, feeling that I “should” be writing more about big ideas, perhaps about Patagonia’s founder giving away his company this week, stating “Earth is our only shareholder”, but I am not sure I would have much fresh to say about that beyond what thousands of others are saying in reposting this news.

Hmm, as I write this I do pull out one paragraph from his statement, on one of the options he had, which was to take the company public, where he notes:

What a disaster that would have been. Even public companies with good intentions are under too much pressure to create short-term gain at the expense of long-term vitality and responsibility.

I have many years of experience working both with privately held and public companies and with the public companies I am often brought in to help the CEO focus on the longer-term, vision, long-term transformation and sustainability of the culture and the business, thinking more like a privately held company, in other words.

I’ll pause on that for now, as, though I started coming up with the germ of a thought as I sat down and started writing, today’s blog is simply to share a lack of inspiration and feeling guilty about that.

My choice? To acknowledge that feeling of guilt, let go of it, and pause. Perhaps I’ll feel more inspired tomorrow, perhaps I shall pause this daily blog for a time. We shall see.
