The beauty of a still mind

by | Aug 12, 2022 | Open Leadership, Response-ability, Self-Knowledge

To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders

Yesterday I had an empty diary. There is also another heatwave where I live, so I simply relaxed in the house and did very little indeed. Within all of that, I noticed that my mind was still. I felt serenely calm, with no worries, no concerns.

As I felt aware of that stillness, I could suddenly recognise that, during all of my cancer treatment journey (that ended just over two weeks ago), and even though I (almost) always felt in control and response-able, there was always an underlying lack of stillness. This came first from the need to be patient with surgical recovery, and then with struggling through four cycles of chemo (and yes, it is a struggle, no matter the physical and mental state one is in).

So, a simple post today, I’m thankful for my mind being still. Once still, there is then space for new ideas and thoughts to emerge. As Lao Tzu said, “to the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders”.

How still is your mind today?
