If you can see the future, what will you do now?

by | Nov 3, 2021 | Open Leadership

see the future

If you take time to look into the future, what then will you choose to do now in order to make that a reality, an ambition you will realise?

Recently two of us have been continuing a collaborative conversation which now looks like us bringing together a select and small group of leaders to meet up monthly to talk about the big issues, challenges and opportunities they see ahead in the next three to five years.

This reminded me of a private dinner club I led in Cayman up until a few years ago. Eight people in the group such that (back in the days of business travel!) typically six came to our dinners every two months. This group was from varying backgrounds, with the common thread being a desire to pause to look into the future, at what will make the difference for others as well as for themselves and those they lead. The conversations at these dinners were fantastic and educated and informed all of us, with the seeds from those ideas continuing to bear fruit years later.

This all leads me on to the question I posed above, around what decisions you will make and actions you will take if you can see the future three to five years out?

I’ve talked to several people about this between the conversation I mentioned above and writing this blog, and it may not surprise you to note that, in the ever changing and uncertain times we live in, a common concern is that leaders can’t or don’t make the time to lift their head above the immediate concerns of the day and look out a few years.

If you don’t do that, then it renders valueless the question on what to do now to help realise future ambition.

I won’t today fire out any repetitive truisms, we all know the value of making the time to look at the big picture and out into the future. If you want to do it, you will do it.

I’ll be very happy to start you out on that with a Zoom call to listen to your thoughts and then offer reflections from that deep listening. To book a call in moments and lock that time into your diary with a calendar invite, simply visit the link here.
