I am not for sale, neither is the respect and attention of my audience. I wanted the thousands of regular readers to know that.
As the audience numbers for this daily blog have grown, I am increasingly receiving solicitations where people offer to pay me to write guests posts as long as I put “do follow” links in there to whoever they are looking to promote.
Last week I wrote: “The goal of sharing ideas” in which I noted:
“Popularity is how many likes you collect. Impact is how many lives you enrich” ~Adam Grant.
This thought is one of the reasons why I choose not to restrict my thoughts to a subscriber-only newsletter, something I feel many do to build their own “assets” so they can then monetise them later. I do understand that motivation, yet for me, that doesn’t feel right, my choice is simply to share.
Please also know that, while almost every post I write has a linkout to something someone else has written, and perhaps some of these people sharing their knowlege have products or services this audience may find valuable my sharing is all about knowledge and so is always shared unconditionally.
For clarity, the mere act of offering to pay to place a post will see me hit the delete button right away.
I am not for sale, neither is the respect and attention of my audience. I wanted the thousands of regular readers to know that.
Again, there may be good reasons to “monetise” attention. After all, this is a large part of what most marketing is about. It simply isn’t me or why I write.
