We have inside us our whole potential

by | May 12, 2021 | Open Leadership

potential

When we plant a rose seed in the earth, we notice that it is small, but we do not criticize it as “rootless and stemless.” We treat it as a seed, giving it the water and nourishment required of a seed. When it first shoots up out of the earth, we don’t condemn it as immature and underdeveloped; nor do we criticize the buds for not being open when they appear. We stand in wonder at the process taking place and give the plant the care it needs at each stage of its development. The rose is a rose from the time it is a seed to the time it dies. Within it, at all times, it contains its whole potential. It seems to be constantly in the process of change; yet at each state, at each moment, it is perfectly all right as it is.

From “The Inner Game of Tennis”, in an article by Nick Wignall on this seminal book on leadership coaching

My Purpose is captured in the three words #MakingPotentialPossible.

This informs all of my work, it is about listening, then seeing the potential in others, then my role is to support them in making this possible, from systematic business changes to the simplicity of believing in another person and being there to give my support.

What I do is an evolution of, first, my decades of business and leadership experience, then in over a decade of training, development and client experience as a business and leadership coach. The book that, to me, represents the foundation of the profession of Leadership Coaching is The Inner Game of Tennis by Timothy Gallwey.

This week, I received an article link to a summary of core quotes from the book from my dear friend and a Swimming Coach who has forgotten more about the inner game than I have ever learned, Ian Armiger (see or listen to Ian on WhatComesNextLive). As you can imagine, the quote that popped out for me was the one above about potential.

Our potential is within us, always. If you feel ready to release it, I would simply love to talk to you, click here to book a zoom in moments.
