Do your part - COVID Vaccination in the UK

Yesterday I received my first Covid vaccination here in the UK. Hats off to the UK Government, they’ve done this very well. The vaccination process itself was also wonderfully fast and smooth, with it being particularly energising to see a really well drilled set of volunteer marshals managing the flow of the process for the NHS staff. Smooth as silk.

Now, the post today is called “do your part”. I am someone who always seeks to be without judgement of others, yet I am really struggling to see a number of people dear to me finding various reasons to both be anti covid vaccination and therefore refusing to take it themselves. This deeply disappoints me, as vaccination goes way, way beyond ourselves s individuals being protected, it is about collective individual action in receiving the vaccine protecting all of us in the community.

To me this is best expressed by the image above. I too have that small scar on my upper arm where I had a smallpox vaccine, but my adult children do not, because, across the world, people had done their part by being vaccinated. I won’t get into a conversation about Covid itself or the vaccines, simply to note that vaccinations only work for the whole population if we individually do our part.

I encourage you to do yours.
