#DoingTheRightThing – The Plattery

Vital Meals by the Plattery
the latest evolution of Vital Meals by The Plattery, April 22, 2020

I’ve been posting on Twitter, and occasionally on my daily blog, examples of businesses #DoingTheRightThing. Also, my friend Darryl Bates-Brownsword recently coined a phrase on a Zoom with me of: “Loyalty will be rewarded with Loyalty”

This applies to governments and large corporate businesses, but also to individuals and small businesses too. I trust we will remember how people acted through this when we emerge to the other side in time.

On a community level, it has been uplifting and inspiring to see so many small businesses in my area of London pivoting to help the community. I will remember those who showed loyalty to their community, their staff, those who are and have been #DoingTheRightThing.

Today an example of one such company, The Plattery. I have donated at their GoFundMe Link, click here if you wish to join me.

The image above was posted yesterday in a local community support group for my area, with then a message on twitter: “We’ve added a new service to the #vitalmeals offering. This is inspired by my mum who is isolating & suffers from severe arthritis causing everyday kitchen tasks to be a real struggle for her.”

The founder had acted right away once the UK went into lockdown on March 23rd, setting up #VitalMeals on her website, with the message:

I am cooking & delivering free nutritious meals to the elderly, vulnerable and those unable to leave their homes or access food for whatever reason (NHS staff who are not able to get to a stocked shop for example).

During this time, I have stopped all events catering and am instead providing free food to anyone who can’t feed themselves in London amid the Covid-19 outbreak. The scheme is currently being funded by 10% of The Plattery’s February profit & directly from my own pocket however, demand for the service is increasing as many people across the city need feeding and I need your help! I launched this scheme on the 24th of March and since then, I have been delivering about 20 meals a day and the list of people is growing faster than I can keep up with.

Once the profit money runs out, the scheme will not stop, but instead I will continue to fund the service out of my own pocket – I will not sit by while people go hungry – however, any donations to help me keep feeding people would be hugely welcome and helpful! As I currently have no income, any donation will also go towards petrol money for the deliveries & rent to ensure I can keep my kitchen space – without a kitchen, I can’t cook!

I am so drawn to this individual and her business and her sense of purpose. From the business Facebook page it seems she is now cooking and delivering at least fifty meals per day and going from strength to strength, supported by the GoFundMe and by volunteers.

When this is over, I truly trust that the community will remember her #DoingTheRightThing and that “Loyalty will be rewarded with Loyalty”
