Creating alignment for groups and individuals

On the #BeMoreYou page of this site, the “How I Work” section of that page outlines how I work 1:1 with leaders around the world.

What that page doesn’t mention is that I also love to work with boards and leadership teams whenever they need to come together for a longer meeting (anything from half a day to two or more days) to create alignment for taking their business or organisation forwards.

I’m mentioning this today as yesterday I posted “Can you do what you love?“, noting that, over the last week, I’ve done just that, facilitating two-day meetings in Canada for two organisations, one a multi-billion dollar business, one a charity. Both are growing fast and are at pivotal and transformative stages.

So, my website highlights my 1:1 work, and at the same time, I love to work with groups.

What do both types of work have in common?

Creating Alignment

I love the alignment image above, as it both feels like it gives a picture of what it is like to align a group, as well as, if you were to flip it ninety degrees, one could imagine a person standing and needing an osteopath or other specialist to help them correct a misaligned spinal column.

I suppose that it is perhaps easier for most of us to consider the concept of “creating alignment” around a group than for an individual.

When we look at a group such as as a board, leadership team etc, a facilitator would tend to be supporting them in aligning around such contextual levels as Purpose, Vision, Values, Strategies, Objectives, Goals (though I note that I prefer to work with them on the first four and leave the other levels to more tactical facilitators).

When it comes to an individual though, perhaps one may not so readily consider “creating alignment” as a context for working with a specialist like me or someone similar.

Hmm, this context does get me thinking. I just reviewed the wording on that #BeMoreYou page, and under the theme of “Making Potential Possible”, it says:

“My goal is to be a catalyst for the transformative place where your understanding, expertise and experience meets self-knowledge, bravery and humility. I employ radical candour, deep listening and subtle direction, leveraging knowledge and experience when needed.

My approach is about developing your intuition: a more heart-centered form of leadership based on a deep understanding of the language of business, from raw numbers and data to psychology and how people act energetically. Together we will model what works and layer onto it the energy required to catalyze your development as a paradigm-shifting leader.”

In hindsight this is quite wordy, yet if I were to summarise what working in this way with me does for clients, one of the most common reflections they have is that working with me gives them, as an outcome:

Clarity

This can be clarity on their next steps in their career, in their leadership role, for what they will focus on for their business, for how they balance their work and personal life, understanding their purpose in life (their Ikigai!). So many ways to feel that sense of clarity in working 1:1 with a sounding board.

As an individual, if working with a sounding board gives you such clarity, that very much feels like, on that individual level, it means you have reached a place where you feel aligned as an individual. When you are aligned, your leadership is so much more effective and in service of you and all those around you.

So, if you are seeking clarity, looking to get more aligned as an individual or in leading a board, team or group, I’d love to talk to you.

After all, this is what I love, so always interested in a call or meeting to listen and see where I may help. As I noted in yesterday’s post, this is what I love to do!
