The power of the word “more”

Beginning with some wisdom from the inestimable Dolly Parton (a wise woman, never to be underestimated), today some musing on the power of the word “more”.

To frame this, at this time of year I find myself musing on year-end reflections (see numerous recent posts in the last week or so), on ways to reflect on the year past, on being present to where we are at this moment, and also ways to look at the upcoming year more effectively than waiting until the start of January and setting challenging “resolutions” that, statistically, most of us will never achieve or attain.

“How could your business be more beautiful ?”

Alan Moore, Beautiful Business

At any time I have many topics percolating for future articles, and currently several are around what the business of the future may look like. A key element of this is changing the question for business leaders from how could your business be more profitable, to Alan’s question.

His question is beautiful in itself, provocative, challenging and, most of all, inviting.

The word “more” when allied to a positive driver, is an invitation, it is attractive, enticing, even compelling.

As I write this, I realised that the word more is SO compelling, that I already wrote a piece on this only two weeks ago, with: “Being More“, where I wrote about Alan, and also about Ed Percival and #BeMoreYou.

I’ll close, then, smiling at the recognition of how even the word “more” is so inviting to me that I came back to writing about it so soon! As I wrote in that earlier article:

More is an invitation. An invitation creates space for opportunities.
