Movies with Meaning – Hidden Gems

by | May 27, 2018 | Open Leadership, Response-ability, Self-Knowledge

Weekly series. Do please send suggestions via email, twitter etc. You can send a theme and/or specific movies. Each week we feature three movies with meaning, so send in a movie with a sentence or two on the core meaning you take from it and a clip from the movie that speaks to that meaning.

Often my weekly movies posts are around a specific theme on leadership.

This week? Simply some hidden gems and, with each one, an off-centre lens you could view them through.

The Lives of Others (2006)

Wonderful German film set in the time of the Stasi in East Germany, with a stasi office putting people under surveillance.

Observe the subtle transformation of the lead character from separation from others to recognising the humanity in us all.

Frost/Nixon (2008)

Frank Langella plays Nixon, and Michael Sheen simply inhabits David Frost. A psychological battle in a TV interview.

Silent Running (1972)

I love this film and always have, even before my favourite movie critic, Mark Kermode, regards it as one of the greatest movies ever made.
