In the last week on this daily blog, I’ve been inspired by Carlo Rovelli, Elif Shafak, Rick Rubin and others, leading me to encourage you to “Be curious and learn widely” as I wrote two days ago.
Today sharing with you the TED Talk by David McWilliams, given earlier this year but just posted online by TED this week. David’s core message is “Listen to the Poets”, joking also “not economists like me”, so I smile noting that right now I’m in Kilkenny at Kilkenomics, um, listening to economists!
In his talk, he speaks of lessons we can learn to apply to whatever the current crisis our world faces. In this, he quotes W.B. Yeats on one reason why we fail to predict and, often, address a crisis. Yeats said: “The best lack all conviction and the worst are full of passionate intensity.”
