Read the small print on the bottom right of this screenshot. 1,725 units built in 40 weeks. That’s two high-rise towers, the taller being 45 storeys high. “Innovation inbuilt” indeed!.
This astonishing project took shape at an inconceivably rapid pace right next to East Croydon railway station, a busy mainline station that I pass through several times per week. “Wow” was the concise reaction of an architect friend when I sent the project information to them. Right now I am thinking of what this construction method could do to reduce the cost of constructing affordable housing in Cayman. First, we would need it to be allowable to have a higher building (say 10-12 stories) to make this construction method truly valuable (as the main cost becomes building the structural frame to hang the “Lego block” modular apartments on. Once that is in place, you construct the modular units anywhere in the world then ship them directly to Cayman and assemble on site.
Innovation is everywhere if we choose to look.
