Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving
From Einstein: His Life and Universe by Walter Isaacson, taken from the wonderful “Letters of Note” newsletter
Regular readers will know how much I love to be out riding my bike. When riding, indeed you must keep moving. In fact, on rougher surfaces (particularly for those on Mountain Bikes), the faster you move, the easier it is to keep your balance, something that I (as a road cyclist) still struggle with.
All that said, I do not wholly agree with Einstein. Sometimes to keep your balance you absolutely must stop moving and pause.
As I often counsel CEOs and other Leaders, “the less you do the more valuable you are to your organisation”. A big part of that is taking time out to pause, to refresh, to think.
What are your thoughts?
