Just start

start

We all have tasks we like to put off. For me, it used to include completing annual compliance documentation for my companies. I really don’t like compliance stuff (and admiration goes to those who work in this space!).

Another such task is packing to move. I got back from my most recent trip to Cayman on Saturday morning, knowing that I have to pack up my house ready to move in less than two weeks and, more than that, I only have until this Friday to do most of it as I am off to Scotland this weekend for a few days too. While away for a week, given I couldn’t actually do any packing, I was making lists of the things I have to do in order to move, including what I would take, what I would sell or donate, what would go where, and how I would pack.

Yes, I am a list-maker.

However, when I woke up on Sunday, rather than look at and add to my lists, I decided to just get started.

I was then actually quite shocked that, within a few hours, I had emptied the loft, gone through all I had stored there, dumped some stuff, re-ordered and re-boxed the rest, including (yes) making lists for what was in each box and where it would go.

Sometimes we can procrastinate getting started on something, feeling the task will take longer and be harder than it actually ends up being in reality.

My advice? Just start

PS a prize for the first person to let me know who that is blasting off the blocks 😉
