Take time to look around you.
On Tuesday this week, I was in Edinburgh. It was cold (below freezing), sunny and bright as I walked around the city to and between meetings.
I placed a conscious focus on looking around me.
Though I was born and lived in Edinburgh for some formative periods of my younger life and so know it extremely well, it was my first time in quite a while up there for some days of meetings, so that focus on looking around stopped me from taking for granted this magnificent city.
In addition, taking time to look around before and between meetings was also a great way to ensure I was fully present in the place, the time and for the person I was about to meet next.
Look around you.
Oh, and from my tour of central Edinburgh, the photo above is the sun rising above the Usher Hall, taken before a breakfast meeting. The next one was where the mid morning winter sun was behind Edinburgh Castle, taken from, yes, “Castle Street” as I walked along to my next meeting. The final shot was around midday from an upstairs window of a restaurant overlooking St Andrew Square.
Gosh, Edinburgh is magnificent!
