In late 2016 I committed to visiting Scotland every six weeks from Cayman. I felt drawn back there as I felt I could be of help and support to businesses and leaders in my home country. Spinning out of those trips, in the Spring of 2017 I found myself leading a workshop in Glasgow for around twenty people from a wide range of private and public sector backgrounds that was exploratory in nature and had the theme:
“Towards a Brave and Confident Scotland”
From that event, a few teams gelled and ideas and projects flowed. More than that, though, several participants told me they left with enhanced belief in what they, their businesses and organisations, as well as Scotland as a country could achieve and become. That I played any part in energising and inspiring ideas and belief in potential, is all I could ever wish for.
Shortly after that event I then moved from Cayman to London and, from that closer base, continued to visit Scotland frequently and with a regular cadence right up until the pandemic started in March 2020. Such a presence naturally led to building relationships, and involvement in various projects and initiatives, though the distance enforced by the pandemic created a form or break for the last wee while.
Well, now I feel it is time to begin that regular rhythm once more so, beginning in January (and, specifically, I will be in Edinburgh on January 16th and 17th), I will once again begin to visit Scotland around every six weeks.
I will fill those days with meetings. Who will I meet with? Well, clearly I’ll meet some existing friends, clients and other contacts, and at the same time, I’d love to meet new people too!
