Good morning from Edinburgh, where I am spending a few days with family.
As a theme, my daily posting over the last while has been, well, relatively uneventful and quiet and boringly normal, even.
After the year I have had with my health journey, though, uneventful and quiet, boringly normal, are all adjectives I deeply appreciate.
It is uneventful to wake up, step out onto the landing of my Aunt’s house and see this view of the Forth from the skylight. Uneventful, but wonderful. I stand there each morning for quite some time and simply take it in.
It was quiet and peaceful to see my son play football with his Grandparents’ dog yesterday. I stood and watched them for a long while, soaking up every second of such a normal moment.
Later that day I decided to elongate the quiet of having sat in my brother’s garden with a cold drink, so to do so I took my son on a quiet and peaceful five-mile walk across Edinburgh, starting with two miles or so along the banks of the river, the Water of Leith.
Uneventful and quiet, boringly normal.
Perhaps, yet rarely have I felt so present and appreciative of such simplicity.
Sometimes life, work, and business is all about action, excitement, drama, and tension. These absolutely bring colour and vibrancy to life.
Sometimes, though, “boringly normal” is something that we feel, so let us perhaps take time to appreciate it rather than rush to the next piece of the action.
