Two days ago, my oldest son, Alex turned 28. Wow, 28, pretty soon he will be less than half my age! I am immensely proud of the man he has grown to become, as I am of all of my boys x
Yesterday, June 25th, also marked the 7th anniversary of the passing of my greatest mentor in life, Ed Percival. Ed knew my oldest son for only a short time, but Ed made a difference in the life of everybody he touched, even if he met them only once.
I remember Ed telling me that he would always make a point of reading the name tag of a barista when he went for his “sacrament”, his coffee at Starbucks (he called himself a “Starbucrucian” for fun). He would then always address them by name, with a smile, and always thank them and wish them a wonderful day (or words to that effect), with his words always delivered with energy, love and genuine care.
I saw him do this over and over and watched people light up. I’d always generally done something similar, but not always, but since I moved to the big city of London, I’ve had countless opportunities to make such short moments make a difference, however small.
Thinking of you today and always, Ed, your legacy lives on in everyone you touched.
