As I’ve shared recently, at the end of March, after being picked up asymptomatically through a screening programme, I had major surgery to remove a cancer tumour in my colon, something that will be “mopped up” with three months of chemotherapy to start in the next couple of weeks. In short, all is well and will be well, and at the same time, I have been most moved by how people have kept me in their thoughts and checked in on me, whether by calls or messages or even by coming by my house for a chat and a walk.
People have also, with a real feeling of generosity that I have gratefully received, offered to be there for whatever I need. Now, many of my friends made through business or otherwise are people whom I connect most often with around discussing ideas, so one thing that I have become ever more clear on through this is that I am fuelled by people, by ideas, by then connecting the dots around people and ideas.
I’ve therefore said to quite a number of people that the most valuable thing they can do for me is to keep connecting me to people to talk to and ideas to discuss and talk about. When I moved to London around five years ago, when asked what my approach was to getting to know people, I simply said “I love meeting interesting people doing interesting things”. That mindset has and continues to be perfect for me.
So, whether in person (London area) or online (anywhere in the world, anytime!), I love meeting people thinking about interesting ideas and doing interesting things, it is my fuel. Feel good about connecting to me or connecting people to me. My diary is always open on my site here.
