This time last year where I live (London) we were in lockdown and knew it would not be lifted for at least another two or more months. This year things are largely opened up, yet I have a “hibernation” feeling at the moment. Not the same as feeling restricted by the weather or lockdowns, simply that “hey, it is winter, I’ll just take it slow and easy until spring”.
As someone who had lived half his life in Cayman where the weather varies from “hot” to “really hot”, getting used to seasons since living in the UK has been full of learnings. I do feel really settled now in all areas of life and with where I live, so perhaps that adds to the ease I feel with the mid-winter “hibernation” vibe, and perhaps also linked to the fact that I will be going to Cayman in early April for a month, so have that warmth (literal and from the Cayman community) to look ahead to.
In life outside work, this relaxed hibernation feeling means I’m pretty chilled doing not too much when the weather is bleak (as it has been the last few days). As to work though, I was really active with fresh activity towards the end of last year and at the start of this year, but that relaxed feeling feels like it has, over the last month, created a sense of “no need to do any more than the minimum”.
Hmm. Nice, but not my normal way of being, so this week I’m going to kick into gear and have a more proactive focus towards what I may do in the coming months (beyond existing clients and ideas already in progress).
One specific thought is around Cayman. As I’ll be over for a whole month, and as Cayman is now also opening up more and more from Covid, feels like April will be a great time to reconnect with clients and the business community, so for the next few days will cogitate on how I may best be of service.
So, yes, am hibernating happily, and at the same time, I’m ready to get the “cogs turning” towards spring activity now. You?
