This week I’ve had a number of amazing meetings (online and in-person) with amazing thinkers and leaders. Yesterday after one such meeting, as we headed our separate ways, the person I’d met with and I both knew that we would meet again (for one thing, we had covered loads of fascinating areas to delve into further at a later date), then they noted: “I’m going to take time to process first”. I love that.
After all of those meetings this week, I too am going to take time to process, to first allow my subconscious to go to work on all of the conversations, thoughts, ideas, possibilities, opportunities. Once I’ve let that all sit over the weekend, I will likely take time early next week to write down some stream of consciousness notes from each meeting. After all of that, my brain will then be in a position to “join the dots”, to see what insights for further discussion, actions, projects, joint activities may come forth.
We live in a world that is so often oriented towards immediate action, yet sometimes the deeper value comes from taking time to process.
Oh, and if you are a lawyer reading this, or a client of a lawyer wanting your lawyer to add value by doing their best work, how about occasionally making a clear decision to take time to process before responding to that urgent email (if you are the lawyer), or allowing your lawyer time to process, to think, to then come up with their own insights as to how best to add value to you as their client.
