Another thought on the “Good Day” walk with Ian Sanders that I wrote about yesterday is around the fact that the first question he asked each of us in the group was “what are you excited about this year?”. Positive language and positivity are truly powerful and so to start off a walk with such a positive question is a conscious and expert choice.
Later in the day after that walk, I was on a weekly video call with a client in North America who was excited too. They were excited about the year ahead and, in the moment, also excited to be making their first long haul business flight and trip soon.
As they shared that, rather than move on with the call, I slowed us down, acknowledged the client for the work done and progress made last year that is key to why they feel excited about 2022, plus asked them what was exciting about that upcoming business trip. I took time to go through that, from what they enjoyed about the long flight to what they look forward to being in a different place, to the work they will do and the people they will meet.
In short, I took time for them to BE excited, to feel it, anchor it, acknowledge it, appreciate it.
A word Ian Sanders likes to use is “Fuel”. Taking time to BE excited can fuel you, top up your tank, give you reserves to propel and carry you forwards.
