The more I learn, the further back into history I often go to learn from the ancients, including such areas as Buddhism, the Tao, Sufism and also the Stoics. I capture much of this in the concept of #OpenLeadership (see the key article: “Are you ready for Open Leadership“, distilled into the image above).
When we think of military and industrial era leaders, we can yes, think of two characteristics of #OpenLeadership, being Brave and Hungry. However, if leaders only focus on those two, the dangers that can come with that are clear to see, of ego, control, power, bullying, toxicity and more. The secret to being the type of leader we need for today and tomorrow, of #OpenLeadership, is to ally being Brave and Hungry with being Open and Humble.
The Stoics very much modelled this. I’ve written often about them (see the search results here for articles from this site). For today though, this graphic captures some key learnings from the Stoics. As you read them, consider how being Open and Humble is the bedrock upon which you can build your growth into being a leader others choose to follow as you follow that path towards that Brave vision and goals you are Hungry to achieve.
