Josh Waitzkin, when asked what he sees in common amongst Elite performers in business, noted a few things. One that sung to me was this.
Earlier this year I refocussed my home page, to begin now with the words:
Elite Mindset
Are you ready to stretch beyond your comfort zone in the quest to be an elite performer?You understand that elite is a mindset, a journey, and one you are hungry to take.
This was a simple update, only of the first paragraph, but I first committed to refining this using a specialist brand and copy team who could really distil this to these few words. I’m a fan of taking the time to find simplicity, see here and here.
At that time, knowing the majority of my readers come from other sources than my home page (eg through my email newsletter (sign up on the home page), Twitter, LinkedIn, Medium pages), I launched with a post that I called:
Elite Mindset – the Journey from Good to Great to Elite
Beginning that post with the words “Elite Mindset” has origins for me. First, the focus on Elite Mindset has been with me for many, many years, though has crystallised as my focus for client work more recently. One key post for me is the one that I referenced Josh Waitzkin in, written back in August 2020 and simply called: “How do you go from Great to Elite?“. I do encourage you to both read it and follow the link to the Tim Ferris interview with Josh Waitzkin, so many lessons.
Since then, I have followed a path of curiosity about this until I then chose last summer to update my site. The update was literally only of that one paragraph, but I knew it was time to “hone” it, perhaps influencing a post also this past summer called: “Know when to Hone“.
So, all of that as background, as I continue with daily postings, I will now look to occasionally highlight specific lessons around Elite Mindset, literally by starting each one with those words, as I have again today.
