Yesterday my guest on this week’s #WhatComesNextLive was my friend Alex Barker, who turned the tables on me.
Alex was the second guest on the show back in July 2020 and is now my second repeat guest on show #71. I’d asked her to come back on as she has had a lot happening (as we all have!) in the last 17 months, including co-hosting her own podcast, called, as one might expect, BeMorePirate.
Each week I talk to a leader for about thirty minutes, it is never planned, simply whatever they want to talk about, with my listening and curiosity there to support that flow. Alex, a little mischievously, and driven by curiosity, decided to turn the tables on me and so this week you will see (or hear, on the podcast) me being interviewed on my own show! My interviewer was very curious about how I seek to balance empathic listening with directness in leadership with individuals and groups. Her questions were really incisive and made me think, often expressing myself in ways I had never thought of before.
One such question was around what all my past show guests had in common, what patterns had emerged after so many shows. After quite some time pondering, I realised that the commonality is that they are all people who model #OpenLeadership, displaying the four characteristics of being Brave, Hungry, Open and Humble.
