The Victoria Line on the London Underground has hump-back stations which apparently saves 5% in energy and help the trains run 9% faster. Elegant simplicity in engineering, I love it.
This reminds me of the phrase “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication“, a theme I have riffed on multiple times in past posts.
I love it when things can be distilled to simplicity, it indeed feels elegant as well as effective.
Meanwhile, if you are in London and on the Underground, if you love elegant simplicity I recommend you avoid Bank station (those who know, know and are giving that thought a wry smile right now!).
