This week’s guest on WhatComesNextLive was Roland Harwood, leader of the WeAreLiminal community.
Our conversation focussed on the upcoming COP26 summit and what can we say or do to create radical action in the face of the climate crisis. Our conversation reflected on the need for revolutionary change, yet seeing that governments and businesses are often, at best, making slow, evolutionary change.
When asking Roland what solutions he felt were out there, he said a couple of things in particular that held real power for me.
First:, “when faced with a binary choice, always choose both“. When faced with options of revolutionary or evolutionary change, then, choose both. Both can have their place in effecting radical change.
Second, he said: “I believe the solutions are already out there, the problem is connecting people and ideas”. This resonates with me deeply. In our globally interconnected world, we have many, many people with the skills to find solutions to the world’s most pressing problems, and in fact, many of the solutions have already been found. What we now need are those who are “uber-connectors”, those who range widely and with deep curiosity and abundantly connect people and ideas.
