Listening for Context

Over the past ten days in Cayman, I have had around thirty meetings with individuals.

Each conversation was different, yet when I listened for what was happening, certain contextual themes emerged.

One of those contextual themes was in what was NOT said. Nobody was talking about what changes would have to happen to prepare the country to open their covid “bubble” to allow vaccinated visitors in without quarantine (hence some inevitable community transmission) from the planned date of October 14th.

Prior to those meetings, I had been “turning hopes into projections” and planning to come back in about two months time for a week or so, based on the premise that I wouldn’t have to quarantine for six days.

At this stage, as I bring my trip to a close, no announcements have yet been made, but it feels almost certain that the October 14th opening date will be pushed back, hence nobody will be able to plan travel to Cayman (without the existing quarantine requirements) with anything resembling certainty.

This is one example, there are others that are Cayman-specific.

Beyond my own recent experience, what do you hear when you listen for context? Lift above the detail, the content, the day to day, there is always something to notice.
