Am very aware that my email newsletter (a digest of daily emails, sent every Tuesday and Friday) has hundreds of people from Cayman on it. Last night at the end of a full day, I jumped on the weekly Cayman Connection Yard Meeting (follow their instagram and facebook for more information, or email them), open both to Caymanians overseas and to Caymanians back home who want to join us as we check in each week.
Cayman is my home (though now I live in London) and I feel it is really important to consciously remain connected to home, particularly in this northern hemisphere covid winter.
Also, thinking of Cayman, two nights ago I was driving down a road on a cold dark night when the hands-free phone rang. The car soon radiated with a Caymanian accent as a young Mr Ebanks called me from my bank in Cayman to help me with a customer service issue. It was SO wonderful to hear my car filled with the sounds of a Caymanian who, by the way, gave world-class and highly professional service. Our small islands are full of world-class talent and people!
Sometimes staying connected does mean consciously making the time and effort to do so. It may feel different for some of you, but for me, it feeds my soul and sustains my energy through the winter!
