Don’t shout at your children. Parents who look after their stress levels won’t be so likely to ever shout at their children.
As a parent, one of the things I regret the most is occasions where I yelled at them for something. On occasions when that happened it was often, in hindsight, linked to me being under stress in some area, often related to my work, often that was about having too much work, too many hours, too much pressure.
The most important thing to me in my life is being a good father, so why would I ever allow myself to be so pressured that I end up raising my voice to my children? Never an excuse for that, always regret having done so.
What could I have done differently then? Let me answer by asking some questions around you and your work.
- Do you look after your clients? Of course you do
- Do you look after your team? Am sure you do
- Do you look after yourself? …..hmm
Good leaders look after their people so they can look after the clients and so the business. Great leaders know to look after themselves, so that they can do all of that.
Parents who look after their stress levels won’t be so likely to ever shout at their children.
Leaders who look after themselves will always be more effective and inspirational leaders in everything they do.
We are heading into winter and one of the toughest in our lifetime. Please, look after yourself. Only then can you look after others.
Don’t shout at your children.
