“Do work that you’re proud of – work that matters for people who care. It’s all about connection, empathy and making a difference.” ~ Seth Godin
Seth Godin inspired me to post daily. With well over 7,000 daily posts already he has moved way beyond the “marketing guru” identity and his curiosity and vision has taken him into some powerful directions.
My personal favourite book of his is an example of powerful new directions and is called “The Icarus Deception”. Read my piece here for thoughts on the power of getting out of your comfort zone and why, in fact, you simply have to in our world.
Today though, I found that phrase above in a magazine article last week, so let me talk about it a little.
Last week I was on the short flight from London to Dublin for the Kilkenomics “Economics and Comedy” (yes, an unlikely but amazing combination!).
I picked up the excellent BA Business Life magazine and found an article with Seth Godin. By the way, I feel their outsourced publisher misses a trick in that you can’t see that magazine online (it has no website), though they do have an iOS app to download it each month in “online magazine” format.
Within the fairly generic introduction to Seth in the article was a short passage that absolutely leapt off the page for me”
“Do work that you’re proud of – work that matters for people who care. It’s all about connection, empathy and making a difference.”
Do work that you’re proud of.
Work that matters
For people who care.
Connection
Empathy
Making a difference
Reading back these anchors from Seth reminds me of what inspires me to do what I do.
How do they land for you?
PS Seth is known as a marketer and I said he has moved beyond that. To me, his statements above are about attracting people towards you who see that you believe in what you do and are passionate about it. Far easier to attract people towards you than sell at them, plus you’ve already got alignment at so many levels!
