Mark Moments: Inauguration
a Field of Flags replacing inauguration crowds

At 12pm local time on Thursday, January 20th, as per the twentieth amendment to the United States Constitution, Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th President and Kamala Harris the Vice-President. I made a point to watch that moment. I had felt it was something I wanted to be present to, even though, along with my American friends, this year they could only be present through the representation of this field of flags.

Personally, I have carried much tension over the last four years, as the last President stood against so many of my core values and I was constantly both shocked and saddened both by his words and actions and by the fact that a large minority of Americans still support him to this day. There is so much work to be done by the new President and by Americans as a whole, but yesterday I, like so many millions, took time out to mark this moment, full of potential for the positive change we so sorely need in the world from America and her leadership.

I believe in taking time to mark moments. After all, life is simply a series of moments. Oh, and what a moment there was, when Amanda Gorman read her poem “The Hill we Climb“. This is the third daily post in a row where I have shared this with you. I believe it will stand in time as one of those moments we will always remember, we will always teach our children.

Make time to mark those moments that matter to you.
